Alan McSmith wilderness guide

For over 20 years as a professional guide I’ve walked, poled & paddled through the wild-lands of six African countries. My experiences in the bush, and meeting many inspirational people, have shaped my life.

Wilderness, for me, is more than a place. It’s a state of mind, a way of life. I believe that we all need to find a balance with nature to find our true grounding.

When considering the social and environmental issues of our age, this is more relevant than ever before. Through leading trails, key-note speaking and writing, I have dedicated my life to wilderness conservation.

Welcome to my story!

Alan is the only guide to have led 5 dug-out canoe traverses of the Okavango Delta in Botswana, entirely without back-up. He has covered 3000 km’s by dugout. (Learn more).

His dedication led to the formation of a non-profit organisation called Wilderness Vision where part of trail proceeds are donated to support various projects (Learn more).

Alan has conducted key-note presentations to international audiences of >500 people on the value of natural leadership. (Learn more)

Alan is a published writer and has two books in the pipeline. (Learn more)
